The rain poured down as Steve was finishing up the last of the paper work of the week. He had just opened his own restaurant and never thought there would be so much to do in so little time. He leaned back in his chair and let out a sigh. Just then, there was a knock at the door. This startled Steve. Who would be outside his door at this time of night? He got up and put his robe on and headed for the door. He peeked out the curtains to see his newest addition to his team. A young server by the name of Katie. She was soaked and shivering. He opened the door.
“Katie, what are you doing out in this storm?” he ushered her inside. “It’s raining cats and dogs out there!” he took her coat and hung it on the coat rack.

He led her to a small room and he opened up a dressing closet. “Sorry, but all I have is some sweats and t-shirts. But at least it’s dry.” he smiled as he handed them to her.
“Thanks Steve! You are a god send.” Steve led Katie to the bathroom to change.
“I’ll be down stairs. Just bring these wet clothes down and we’ll throw them in the washer and get them cleaned up.” he walked back down the hallway as she closed the door.
Katie came back down stairs in just the t-shirt. Steve was amazed to see such a shy girl being so bold. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her.
“I tried the sweat pants but they were just too big, so I didn’t think that you’d mind if I just wore the shirt.” she slightly blushed. “Where is your washing machine?” she held up the wet clothing. Steve waved her through the living room. She walked right behind him.
“I got this. Go ahead and get warmed up.” he tried to grab the clothes from her. She pulled them away from Steve.

“Sure. They aren’t anything special. Mostly from the other places I worked. Come to think of it, there are some in there when we worked at the cafe together. Man, that seems like forever ago.”
“I can’t believe you still have them. I thought I was the only one who had them. I can’t believe they closed that place down. I miss working there. We had a lot of good times.” she smiled hesitantly. Then looked away from Steve.
“What’s wrong?” Steve got up and walked behind Katie.
“Well, I thought that the old gang would never part. But after the closed the place everyone went there separate ways. You opened your own place. Josh and Caryn got married, Joel moved to Massachusetts, George was killed in a car accident and Kim went into the navy. And I didn’t do anything with myself. I am still a server. Katie woke up to the smell of coffee brewing. She loved that smell, it reminded her of the cafe. She sat up and stretched. Steve walked in with a tray. Katie smiled when she saw him.
“Good morning beautiful.” he placed the tray beside the bed on a table and kissed Katie. “I had your car towed to the garage this morning. You should be up and running by noon.” he handed Katie a cup and they drank there coffee. Katie just smiled at Steve. She couldn’t help herself. It’s funny, she thought, how such a bad thing like her car breaking down ended up being such a wonderful new start to her life. they drank there coffee and then Steve crawled back into bed with Katie and the night that started just a few hours before started all over again…
