Chapter 7: Saving a Life

When the dragons grow too mighty

To slay with pen or sword

I grow weary of the battle

And the storm I walk toward

When all around is madness

And there’s no safe port in view

I long to turn my path homeward

To stop a while with you

-Rush, Madrigal

Sunday, July 24

Jake crested the hill on that Sunday morning and stood looking out over Mystic Lake. It was a breathtaking sight to behold, every time he had ever seen it. It may have been 20 years since he had seen it, but it was like he had never left. The lake lay in the bottom of a valley, a long, thin line of blue water. The surface this morning was clear and still, reflecting the mountains that were on all sides. The sun had risen over the tallest peak, and was partially covered by clouds. Rays of the sun shone down through the clouds and were illuminating a small clearing on the North side of the lake.

Looking over the lake gave him a feeling of peace, as well as a feeling of accomplishment. Old Bill had given him a task, and he had been able to make it here. He wasn’t sure why he was so intent on following what the old man had asked him to do, but he was happy that he made it on time.

Something momentous was going to happen today: he could feel it in the air.

There came a distant rumbling of thunder. I’d better set up camp just in case, he told himself. He remembered that there was a camping spot on the north side of the lake, about halfway to the western end. In fact, it was right about the spot where the rays of the sun had illuminated things. Hoping nobody would be there, he continued his hike along the shore.

The campground was set back up in a coulee leading towards the mountain. When he arrived there, he found that there was nobody around. Seeing dark clouds rolling in over the top of the mountain, he hurriedly set his pack down and removed the tent. It was an easy tent to put together and he soon had everything ready to go. He put his pack inside the tent and decided to do some meditation there before the rains hit. He didn’t know why, it just seemed appropriate. Old Bill seemed to think something momentous was going to occur today, and he hadn’t been led wrong yet.

The distant rumblings of thunder were growing closer, so he thought he should get to the meditation quickly. It was the type of thing that didn’t really need preparation – just a location far away from anyone else, and it appears that today he has the solitude that he is looking for.

His tent had been set up under the cover of trees, but instead of walking back towards the shore where there were no trees, he walked up towards the mountain. He had seen a small opening in the trees a few yards away, and he wanted to see the sky as he meditated.

Sitting down on the grass he started to go through the meditation where he goes to his safe place. The wind was picking up and the clouds were darkening, but he was able to see the beach house clearly. The difference was that because of the storm around him, the sky on the beach house was cloudy, and the palm trees were blowing in the gathering wind.

With the wind picking up, a sense of unease started to grow. He felt rain hit his face, and he saw rain start to fall over the ocean in his meditation. Pretty soon rain was pounding down, and there were pretty intense storm winds. He saw the flash of lightning through his eyelids, and the thunder sounded immediately. His eyes shot open and he thought, I had better get into my shelter.

Soaking wet, he scrambled to his feet and started running towards his tent when a new sound brought him up short. It was the screams of a woman, calling for help. Looking past his tent where the sound was coming from, what he saw was burned in his mind.

Running towards him from the tree line from the lake was a small Native American woman. She couldn’t have been more than 5′ tall, and her long black hair was streaming behind her. She was wearing jeans and a white shirt, and she had on riding boots. Her cinnamon skin almost shone, partly because of the wetness from the rain. She was willowy thin, and the look about her as she ran was that she was strong and fast.

And it was a good thing as well, because chasing behind her ran a large black bear.

Even being soaked by the rain, he felt a cold sweat break out. But even with the adrenaline, his mind went blank except for the single thought: he MUST save this girl. He may have gone through a tragedy over the past month and a half, but he instinctively knew that if this woman died, his life would truly end.

Without hesitation, he dove into his tent and opened his pack. Zipped in the front pocket was taksim escort his emergency supplies. He put his hand in and rummaged around and found the two small cylinders he had been searching for. He yanked them out and exited the tent.

The young woman was still screaming and calling for help, but she stopped in shock as Jake ran past her towards the bear. She called out, “No, you will be hurt!” But Jake was no longer thinking of anything but keeping this girl safe.

The bear pulled up and roared at him, enraged that this thing thought it could challenge him. It swung its huge paw to try to catch him in the head, but Jake was ready for it and dodged. He took the ends of one of the cylinders and pulled, and a bright red light shone from the road flare.

Roaring again, the bear tried to swat at the bright light. It was painful to look at and it made him nervous. So he tried to take it out. Jake was too fast again however, and this enraged the bear further.

They danced around each other for a while, Jake not wanting to get too close because of the claws, and the bear nervous of the bright light. Nothing really happened until Jake slipped in the mud.

He went down on his side and immediately started rolling away. He felt the wind of the bear’s swipe pass right past his back, and he kept rolling until he was far enough away to get to his feet.

Jake ran around behind a tree to give himself a little bit of space as he tried to figure out what he was going to do. He got an idea – he threw the flare at the bear, hoping that it would burn him and make him want to go away. It singed a little bit of fur, but in the end only served to enrage him further.

Now down to his last flare, Jake lit it and considered his next move as the bear hesitated. Jake knew that if he didn’t scare the bear away soon that he would not survive this encounter. So when the shaggy animal came lumbering towards him again, he did the thing that the bear least expected – Jake charged.

The bear roared and prepared to take a swipe. Jake ducked and came in close. I’ve got one shot at this, he thought, and he thrust the lit flare directly into the bear’s eye.

He felt the eye pop, and the roar of the animal was deafening. Jake was caught by a backhand of the bear’s flailing arm. The air rushed out of his lungs as he flew through the air and hit the side of a pine tree. His head began to spin, and as he slid into unconsciousness, the last thing he saw was the bear sprinting away in pain and fear.

*****

Kaiah sat in shock as her attacker fled the scene. She had been screaming non-stop the whole time and now her throat felt sore. The bear had surprised her as she had come around a bend in the river near the lake, and he must have been hungry. He came towards her, and her horse spooked and started running. As they skirted the lake, her horse bucked in panic and she was thrown free.

Dazed, she saw the bear swipe at the horse and she heard the sound of bones breaking. Sobbing in sorrow, she could do nothing but run.

She didn’t know where she was going, but couldn’t believe her eyes when the man she had been seeking ran past her toward the bear. The fight was short, and now that the bear would probably not return, she was able to relax.

Clinically she assessed herself – the bear had not hit her directly, but the fall from the horse had left her with some scrapes and bruises. She would be Ok with just a little time. It was time to check on her savior.

The man lay in a heap near the pine tree that had somewhat cushioned his fall. If it weren’t for the lower branches with their needles, he may have hit much harder. As it was, he appeared to be knocked out.

She walked over to him and checked him over. There wasn’t any blood that she could see, which was a good thing. As she watched him breathe, she closed her eyes and listened to the sounds around. Along with the sound of the rain, the spirits were telling her that he was injured, but not badly. Relief flooded through her, and she sat down next to him for a moment to gather her thoughts.

She knew that she needed to get them out of the rain, as this cold rain would suck the heat out of their bodies too quickly. Her own tent was with her horse, and she didn’t think that she would be able to face what had happened yet. With a tear for her beloved companion, she looked around. She saw that they were about 20 feet from a tent – probably his – and it was the most likely place to go. He was a large man, but Kaiah had grown up on hard work. She grabbed the shoulders of the light jacket he was wearing and was able to slowly pull him all the way to his tent.

She looked inside. He had left it unzipped in his hurry to help, but because he picked a good location, there was no water inside. He had dry clothes and a sleeping bag inside, as well as a blanket for when it got cold. The ground pad he had as well would be good.

Their wet clothes were going to be a problem. She pulled mecidiyeköy escort off his shoes and socks and then his pants, and then his shirt. She gasped at the bruising already visible on his side, and then couldn’t help but notice how toned his stomach was. He was not a bodybuilder, but she knew that he at least attempted to take care of himself.

Steeling herself, she then took off his underwear, leaving him completely naked. She tried not to look, but as she had never seen a naked man before, she couldn’t help herself. She had to admit that it was not at all as she had expected.

Shaking her head, she took off all of her own clothes, left them all outside the tent, pulled him inside, and zipped the tent door closed.

Once inside, she unzipped his sleeping bag, rolled him onto one side, crawled in beside him, and zipped it shut. They were both shivering, so she turned him away from her and pressed herself up against his back, trying to warm them both. She shivered again, but this time because of the feeling of his body along the length of her own. She had never been in such an intimate position before, and it both frightened and excited her.

She calmed herself down by listening to him breathe. She started to feel the warmth of their cores spreading, and pretty soon she fell asleep.

Chapter 8: Little Dove – Kaiah, Part I

At the speed of love

A radiance that travels

At the speed of love

My heart goes out to you

-Rush, The Speed of Love

Jake started to regain consciousness. The first thing noticed was that he felt warm, and the second was that he could hear the quiet sounds of the wind in the trees above his tent. Based on the last thing he remembered, that didn’t make a lot of sense. He kept his eyes closed and just listened, and tried to become aware of what was going on, to remember what had happened.

He remembered taking the bear’s eye out with the flare – but not really anything after that. He seemed to be alive – this was the sound of a forest at night, though as he thought about it his side did hurt. He supposed that the girl that the bear had been chasing had brought him here.

As if the thought of her brought his other senses alive, he all of a sudden noticed two things at once. First, the smell – it was the smell of another person mixed with some sort of flower. And he felt a warm body pressed up against his back, snuggled up against him.

It was obviously a female based on the curves pressed against him. Unbidden, his cock started to harden. He had no real idea of who she was, and he was not the type of person to take advantage of someone like this. But waking up to the feel of a naked body pressed against his made biology take over, at least just a little bit.

He felt so warm inside the sleeping bag, and as she seemed to be asleep, he didn’t want to move and wake her. A sleeping person is more still than someone awake however, and soon she stirred as well. A shiver went up his back as her hand trailed up his back to his shoulder, and he finally decided to sit up.

*****

Kaiah woke up snuggled against the back of the handsome stranger. His back was broad and hard, and he was radiating heat. She lingered for a moment against him, smelling him – the smell of a man who had just been washed by the rain. The smell of him made her head swirl a little, and as she pushed herself away, her hand trailed up his back and rested on his shoulder. Jake sat up at that point, and because they were both in a sleeping bag together, he inadvertently sat her up.

*****

Laughing, Kaiah unzipped the bag and let it fall to the side. Normally she would have covered herself, but somehow she didn’t feel like she needed to hide from him. Maybe it was because he saved her life, maybe it was the intense feelings she had while curled next to him…but most likely it was because Grandmother Earth and the Spirits of her ancestors were not warning her as she lay next to him. If he was a danger, they would have told her.

So she sat there, not exposing herself, yet not covering herself either. She was just…there. She wondered what he was going to do. She wondered what his name was. She wondered if he found her attractive…and at that, she blushed and lowered her eyes. It was strange, though – she felt that she actually wanted him to look, and to be attracted to what he saw.

*****

Jake sat there, wondering what to do. She didn’t seem embarrassed, so he let himself look.

Sitting in front of him was indeed the Native American woman that he had saved from the bear. When she was running he thought she was a girl, maybe a teenager, but looking at her face he could tell that she was in her twenties at least. Her face was tall and angular, with full sensuous lips and delicate eyebrows. She had raven-black hair, and it cascaded over her shoulders and somewhat covered her breasts, although not completely. Her breasts were small – small but perfect. They avcılar escort were firm and proud, and because her hair partially concealed them, the effect was even more erotic. He saw her lower her eyes and misunderstood. He immediately turned away and said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stare. It’s just…”

He stopped as he felt her hand on his face and he turned to look into her eyes. They were so dark as to be almost black, and saw that he would have to be careful, or he could lose himself in her eyes. They were soulful, old eyes, wise beyond her years. These were the eyes of someone who has seen a lot, has learned a lot – not the eyes of a young woman. He wanted to look into them forever.

“It’s OK,” she said. “I am not embarrassed. I want you to look at me.” She turned her head again at that, and he noticed that she was not turning away, but she was looking at HIM. All of a sudden HE became a little self-conscious, and a flush crept up his face. He now was wondering what SHE thought of HIM. But since she said to look, he did.

Her skin was a deep, rich brown color, completely flawless. The color ran the entire length of her body as far as he could see – face, shoulders, arms, stomach, legs – they were all the same. He saw that he was probably right in his previous assessment, that she wasn’t taller than 5′. Trailing past her breasts with his eyes again, seeing her flat stomach which flared to her hips. She was sitting cross-legged, and he saw that she had a patch of hair around her pussy, which so very slightly peeked open at him, which surprised him – he didn’t know that they did that, as his wife had never really been turned on when he looked at her.

Her legs were thin and toned, the legs of someone who was used to walking and running a lot. She was a small package, but she was perfect.

As she looked at him, all of her movements were graceful. She was exquisite, flawless, and in short, the most beautiful woman he had ever met.

“What’s your name?” she asked, looking up at him.

“Jake Cody,” he replied, staring into her eyes again.

“Does it mean anything?” she asked.

“I’m not sure about Jake, but I was always told that it means Helper, and sometimes Kind or Happy,” He chuckled.

He expected her to laugh, but she just nodded as if that made total sense. “You have definitely helped me – you saved me from the bear. Thank you for that.”

He really did blush this time, and he said, “I didn’t think about it. I saw you in trouble and I just…” he left it hanging there lamely.

She smiled up at him then, and the impact of her smile nearly knocked him over. “Thank you for my life. I am a medicine woman of my people, and they need me. You have done a great service to me and to my people, and you will always be welcomed by the Crow tribe.”

He sat stunned for a moment. He had no idea who the young woman in front of him had been, but he realized that it didn’t matter. He’d have done it even if it was nobody – a grizzled old man or a small child. She had needed help, and so he helped her.

“What is your name then?” he asked. “And its meaning?”

She said, “When I was born, the spirits told my parents that I should be called Kaiah. It is a Crow name meaning, ‘one who is little and wise.'” She looked up at him to gauge his reaction.

“Kaiah,” he said, and a shiver ran the entire length of her body. “I can tell from the short time I’ve met you that you are well named.”

She smiled up at him again, and her words caught in her throat when she saw him smiling back. His smile made her feel happy – she knew that she would be happy as long as this man was happy. She needed to try to make this so. She hoped that what she needed to do to him would make him happy. It would be a hard road, but Grandmother Earth told her that if he could just make it to the end of the road, he would have more joy than he could have ever imagined possible.

She decided to look at him more fully now. His hair was a little shaggy – again, as if he had been backpacking for a month or more. It was dark, not quite to the point of being black, and it had bits of white in it.

His face was careworn. There were laugh lines for sure, but also lines that represented worry, sorrow, and pain. She reached out to touch the lines on his face and she said, “I’m so sorry for what you have had to endure.”

Tears sprung to his eyes and he said, “How do you know?”

She shook her head and said, “Don’t misunderstand – I don’t know what it is, just that you have endured a lot. Jake,” and both of them shivered at her use of his name, “you have had a hard life. I know that much.”

He had a goatee with almost half of it white by now. His face and neck were tanned by the sun, but his shoulders, arms, and torso were all white. She trailed her hand down his arm to his side, where the great purple bruises were angry – showing the effects of his bravery in saving her.

Jake gasped in pleasure as her fingers seemed to ignite the nerves in his side, and then gasped in pain as they probed the bruises. “Patience while I check your injury,” she said. He continued to wince as she pushed and prodded, but in the end she said, “Nothing broken. That is well, as you may have a journey ahead of you.”
